The trail wound its way through a ravine, ever contracting. An oppressive stillness settled upon the air, broken only by the distant sounds of a world forgotten. The rays of hope struggled to penetrate the thickening canopy above, casting long shadows that danced like phantoms on the earth below. Every stride was a test, as if the very ground itsel
